GSU ASA Fashion show vid by P4M

Georgia State ASA Fashion Show 2014 from P4M Films on Vimeo.

This was the second school and show I attended that weekend, after driving a 7 hour trip to take part in the Cleveland state ASA show, I left immediately afterwards and drove a full 10 hours to finally arrive in GA but not without some major complications that almost made sure I would not attend the show. However thank goodness, it all came together once I got to Atlanta.

The GSU show was by far the biggest show I attended, but also the one with the least brand recognition. All designer were put in pools depending on what their brand looked like and those pools became scenes. So the audience may have thought that all the designs in one scene belonged to one designer and one brand, when it may actually be the work of several.

So I was paired with a cool brotha founder of Swade Universcity (check him out), and he was really cool about it which made it a lot better since I’m sure no designer was thrilled about the concept. So we did the show, even got one of my models and one of his to pose together.

Another designer there was Threaded Culture and we actually vibed so well that we ended up pulling out the sketch pads and designing a collab piece together backstage during the show. I’m glad to say we’re really excited about it and can’t wait to release it. We jus have to fix some things first.

All said and done it was an eventful day and I’m glad I got through it and made it to both shows complications and all, it’s all part of life!

This by far ended up being the furthest I’ve travelled for the tour, and surely enough it ended up being one of the most enjoyable and  successful events.

CSU Africa night felt a lot like my own school VCU’s Asu African Fashion show, it was well attended, the crowd responded well and the happiness could actually be felt in the air.

They had a traditional African dance performance

then the African student dance team performed, I was only able to catch a glimpse or two when I wasn’t at my table vending

Most of all the people of CSU ASA were great people, they gave me a really warm welcome and I would totally love to come up again for this show next year.

I had to walk with the models for the flood during my scene so I couldn’t take any pictures of it or film it but I was told they had. So I’ll put them up onceI get them, in the meantime enjoy some backstage pics and more.

They had a Fela Tribute

In Pictures: Surfing culture breaking ground in Sierra Leone.

About a year or a two ago, I came across an article somewhere on the web that talked about how Sierra Leone locals were trying to revive their country’s tourism industry after it had been marred by years of a terrible civil war. In particular, part of these efforts were being channeled into building up both a culture and industry around surfing, a sport originally developed by the native Polynesians in Hawai’i, as the western coast of Sierra Leone is home to a number of beaches that make for some pretty good surf locations.

Whilst not on the level of more mature surf industries and primary surf locations, there are at least four beaches in Sierra Leone that those who visit the country can venture on to with their surfboards in tow: River No.2 beach, Aberdeen beach, Bureh beach and Sulima beach

Out of the four listed above, Bureh beach seems to be gaining the highest level of popularity, probably due in part to the Bureh Beach Surf Club (BBSC) of which some of its members are pictured above as part of a photographic essay by Sierra Leone-based photographer Tommy Trenchard.

The BBSC was set up in 2011 as a non-profit organization in and is the country’s first and only surf club. Bureh is a small fishing village that is about an hour and 30 minutes drive from the capital Freetown.

So if you were thinking of visiting Sierra Leone, or looking for a place to vacation in Africa, these spots are definitely areas to consider. For those who possess ECOWAS passports, you can get passport stamped upon arrival if all your documents are intact. But be sure to check with the Sierra Leonean embassy where you live before departing. Non-ECOWAS passport holders will need visas upon arrival into Sierra Leone.
